Despite being situated in the middle of Copenhagen, Amager Fælled has a sense of tranquility to it. The density of its' vegetation makes this place a place for relaxation and meditation. The dense city does the same. Every passage, every courtyard is a new, staged experience - a new spatial story. In the dense city, it is easy to let your mind wander and let your fantasy create stories.
With this in consideration, this plot will give room to a student housing dormitory related to writing, reading and studying. It is a house, where there is space to focus and reflect amidst the surrounding city's narrow streets and winding canals.
The building is a parallel universe in the center of the city. It relates to passersby across canals and through passages. Here, the inner parts of the buildings are visible: The moveable bookshelves on the ground floor and the big, central 'book-tower', whose wooden structure lights up the city and invites you inside.
The project is situated in a master plan, done in a previous assignment. Prior to the master plan, I designed a temporary installation on the same site.
