THE INDUSTRIAL LIBRARY

A study of a library conceived in times of new architectural ideals

A 2ND YEAR WORKSHOP AT THE ROYAL DANISH ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS. IN COLLABORATION WITH JOHN PHILIP EDSTRAND & SIMON HALD

MARCH 2012

On second year at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine arts, we had a two week workshop where we were to analyse one of several selected works. The overall theme for the analysis was the early industrialism and how it affected works of architecture from that time. The work my group and I analysed was the 1861 University Library in Copenhagen by J.D. Herholdt. For the analysis, each group had to build a 1:33 scale model in cardboard.

The model of the library was later sold to its' real world counterpart where it is exhibited.
